Population Breeding

The population method is an approach in plant breeding designed to enhance a start population with desired properties. This is achieved by using a variety of selection methods. Population breeding means that suitable plants of a population are selected, then subjected to further group-wise or singularised testing and finally joined as a new, enhanced population - the population variety to be. In contrast to line breeding, the final outcome of population breeding is a more or less heterogeneous and heterozygous population.
