Germany Leading

With an average of 80 dt/ha, Germany is far above worldwide average wheat yields. If conditions are favourable, even 100 dt/ha are harvested in Germany. This compares to the average yield of 30 dt/ha achieved on the worldwide 215 million hectares of wheat cultivation area.

Plant breeding accounts for a large part - in fact, more than 50 per cent - of the yield tripling achieved since the 1950ies. Further positive effects are due to improved farming practices as well as advances in fertilizers and plant protection products.
